Our current emotional state is primarily based on three things.

One – past experiences and memories

Two – expectations of the future

Three – current sense contacts

In the meditation on compassion we sent compassion to our past and future selves.

The compassion to the past eased some of the memories.

The compassion to the future eases some of the blows that will be coming.

GETTING READY

Practice the meditation on compassion to think/feel the energy of compassion then

Throw a ball of thought energy up and back from your past to present self and from your present self to your future self.  Practice receiving and catching the energy ball of compassion.

Then when you need it just open to receiving the compassion that you sent to your furure self which you are now and will be then.

Its like pulling yourself up by your own bootstraps.
